Spring 2012 Treading the Boards January- March 2012

This term we will be working towards a a cabaret style performance exploring characters and conventions in the theatre.

Tuesdays @ Stokenham 3.30-4.30 
Tuesdays @ Kingsbridge 5pm-6pm 

Wednesday @ Salcombe 3.35-4.35

From 12th September 2011 you can find us at the Flavel every Monday evening from 5 - 6.30 pm.

Musical Theatre Workshops with Suzie Boyle West End dancer &#38; performer.

AGES 7-10   Come along and explore a scene from the musical ‘Annie’ This fantastic workshop will involve singing, dancing &#38; acting.

‘HAIRSPRAY’
AGES 11-17 Come along and explore a scene from the musical ‘Hairspray’. This workshop will cover ‘triple threat performance’ the use of acting, singing &#38; dancing. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about the industry &#38; getting into the West End professionally.
Loose fitting clothing and lots of energy required

‘Secret Faces’
£10 per child one adult per child can join in for free 
Ages 4+ Families welcome only 15 places available. Artists Dave &#38; Jane Hasell invite families to join them at Harbour House Art Studio. The Secret Faces workshop will help you to create fantastic, expressive, weird and wonderful masks and costumes. Using scrap materials and unique artistic techniques you will create completely original artwork. Why not be a monster, super hero or alien for the day? Come and join us.

The SHAC can run bespoke experience days in partnership with rural venues and schools. The SHAC has already teamed up with Burton Farmhouse and runs a combination of creative and theatrical events. The  SHAC offers;
A Roman, Tudor, Victorian WWII Experience. Each experience includes group activities such as story telling, theatre making, costume making, performance and cookery. This is something we are developing and we welcome your ideas and requests in order to tailor the package to suit the needs of your school and curriculum. 		<description>LAMDA ONE2ONE


The South Hams Arts Collective is working with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) to offer one to one tuition for LAMDA Examinations.

The SHAC offers examinations in;
COMMUNICATION- Particularly in using spoken English and speaking in public, helping students to prepare for interviews, creating presentations and provide a platform for future interviews and careers.
PERFORMANCE- Examinations &#38; preparation provides a vocational pathway into acting, theatre/ musical theatre and the teaching of performaing arts. Tuition includes an opporutnity for personal development through a wide spectrum of creative exploration.

All examinations are accredited and can work towards to UCAS points. The SHAC has built up a reputation for a 100%  pass rate on all exam results.

LAMDA has established itself as a centre of excellence in performance training. Examinations can:
•	improve standards in communication through the spoken word
•	foster an appreciation of literature, poetry and drama
•	acknowledge levels of achievement
•	support the creative, intellectual and social development of an individual as a whole.

Preparation for examinations can:
•	unlock imagination and creative thinking
•	develop communication skills
•	refine technical skills and artistry
•	promote teamwork.

The examinations themselves provide learners with an opportunity to:
•	measure progress against an international standard
•	make contact with expert practitioner assessors outside the immediate teaching environment
•	build self-confidence and self-esteem
•	receive critical appraisal and guidance for future development

The range of exam options supports progression and allows the learner to extend personal and vocational skills as well as realise their potential. 

Preparation and examinations are categorised in three groups; Introductory- help develop communication and encourage confidence and provide an exciting introduction to reading and poetry.

Communication- particularly in Using Spoken English and Speaking in Public, help students prepare for interviews, make presentations and provide a platform for those careers where such skills are important.

Performance- examinations provide vocational pathways to work in acting, theatre, musical theatre and the teaching of performing arts, as well as the opportunity for personal development through a wide spectrum of interests.

Teachers, theatre practitioners and speech and drama professionals facilitate all exam and preparation sessions. They are trained to a high standard to ensure that each examination experience is positive and constructive for individual candidates.

The SHAC is very pleased to be working with LAMDA and offering this opportunity. Rebecca Crookshank will run ‘One2One’ preparation sessions.
